Johanna Mathieux ((Johanna Kinkel as she is now best known) wrote her opus no.1 the comic Vogelkantate when she was just 19 years old. After decades of neglect it is being republished and modern audiences are discovering its delights. The work depicts five birds with individual characters squabbling as they try to hold a choir rehearsal.
This transcription for wind instruments with piano provides a fun and lively addition to the ensemble repertoire and will be a hit in concerts. Alternatively it may be used to accompany singers in the Vogelkantate .
