Emilie Mayer (1812 - 1841) was known to her contemporaries as "the Female Beethoven" and this interesting, attractive four movement symphony is in the late Classical style. Written in 1853 it includes a triangle in the orchestra for the final movement and three trombones appear in every movement.The symphony was premiered in 1853 but probably has not been performed again since then.
