The music opens with a sparkling waltz that seems to gain its inspiration from the traditional mandolin music of Italy. A second contrasting section follows with a melody that also is strongly Italian in character.
A transcription of the 2nd movement from the symphony in E flat, (which was reconstructed, edited and published as a First Edition by Roz Trubger). It has been given the title Scalina Spagna (Spanish Stairs) to reflect both the lively character of the music as well as the composer's life - Sgambati loved Italy and lived by the popular tourist destination in Rome for much of his life.
