Es will Abend werden (trans: night is falling) was published in 1906 and is dedicated to the painter Hans Bertle, who created the illustration used for the cover of the first edition and reproduced for our edition. Tillmetz' piece is full of minute details and marks of expression, which the performer should take care to observe, as Tillmetz is notable for having helped to develop the modern ideas of interpretive playing.
